This is the normal way the station wagon rear door would normally open.  It splits in the middle.

Beau wanted a one piece door that would lift from the bottom remotely.

So we welded the back door together and gutted it to take the weight out.  We have tached a piece of sheet metal to help stablize the two pieces.

We ground the welds down.

We welded in some bracing in the bottom of the door after removing all the heavy stuff.

Here it is welded together rear handle hole welded up.  We were also able to maintain the original upper hinge which helped.

We fabricated a hole in the floor for the actuators to pass through.

Tim fabricated a piece to smooth off the back of the trunk area.

The actuator is poking through the hole we fabricated.

This is a look at the bottom side where the actuator is going to be mounted.
