Construction Pictorial

Merritt's car begins by bolting the bare frame rails in the jig.

The boxing plates are stitch welded in place.

Jaysun is doing the final grinding on the boxing plates.

The lower section of the center crossmember is being fitted to the chassis.

The rear of the frame is cut off so we can move it in for tire clearance.

Here's the rear of the frame rails. We'll be moving the back of the frame in to clear the big Hoosier radials.

The back of the frame is crossed over with tubing and the rear frame rails are welded back on. The center of the cross tube will be opened up for the driveshaft.

The front crossmember is tacked in.

Meanwhile, over at Steve Schmidt Racing Engines, their crew is busy assembling the engine that will be going into Merritt's car.

Here's a shot of the bottom end.
