Construction Pictorial

Merritt wants to ram the air into this Steve Schmidt racing engine. We start with an aftermarket airbox and we'll modify it to work on this '34 Ford.

First we trim off the back so the airbox sits down properly on the carb neck.

Next we make a fiberglass tunnel out of the top of the airbox.

With the airbox mounted on the carb, we now need to trim the tunnel we made.

We made a pattern and cut it out for the tunnel.

Then we transferred the pattern to the hood and cut the hood out.

To build a scoop, we start with a piece of flat steel and shape it in the basic shape we want.

John smoothes the edges for easier handling.

Here's the scoop after it's shaped and fitted.

LOUVERS BABY, GOTTA HAVE LOUVERS!!
