Howard Trawick's '51 Chevy

Howard Trawick brought his '51 Chevy in for some modern upgrades. We'll be removing the original front suspension and replacing it with a modern IFS unit. We'll also be upgrading the rear to a 9" Ford rear. Follow along.

Construction Pictorial - Page 1

The first step is to remove the original front suspension and rear end.

With the front sheet metal removed, the Chevy is stripped down to the frame.

Here's all the goodies all laid out.

The new front crossmember is a bolt in unit. Here you see it bolted to the original frame. The original frame had rivits that had to be ground off and removed in order to accomplish this bolt in.

Now the lower a-arms are bolted up and the power rack is installed. Look carefully and you can see the black brake pedal and booster assembly.

The next step is to weld the hats in place.

Here's the suspension completed (less springs). Next we'll reinstall the front sheet metal.

This shows the finished installation with the front end reinstalled.

Now that the Chevy is rolling in the front, we'll attack the rear.
