McLean's '32 Ford Roadster |
|

Tom
McLean is coming along nicely with his '32 Ford Roadster
he purchased from us recently. Tom has started the body
work and sprayed the body with PPG DPLF epoxy primer.
More primer and blocking will be the next step. |

Just got
some more pictures from Tom on the progress of his '32.
Tom
writes: I set up the hood and hood hinges, radiator and
grill shell.
I
have completed two primer/block sanding routines and I am
in the middle of a third. The body is in good shape but
the doors and deck lid required a bit of filler. Hope to
be finished by October.

Michael,
I’m
making a little progress. The body, chassis, doors, decklid,
hood and sides have been shot with PPG K36 Primer/Surfacer
and sanded with 320 grit in
preparation for final sealer and paint. The
chassis is a roller again and everything except for the
clutch cable and exhaust has been fabricated and bolted
on. I’m trying to finish the exhaust and clutch this
next weekend if weather permits. |

Michael,
See attached photos. I just finished cutting, welding,
grinding and sanding the exhaust for the passenger side.
I got lucky and did not waste any pipe. I’ll
finish the driver side later next week. The body is 95%
prepped for paint and should be painted in a couple of
weeks. I’ll send a few more photos after paint.
Thanks again and building this thing has just been
awesome. I recommend it for anyone.

Michael,
A
couple more photos for you.
I finished the steering linkage and installed the seats.
The seats bolt through the fiberglass floor and into
tabs that I welded to the frame. It makes
for a pretty solid seat frame. The steering linkage was
a major pain in the arse. I
finally had to weld one of the heim
joint jam nuts to the motor mount and it worked pretty
slick. This was after about three different set ups. I
had to get the linkage around the headers as you can see
the nice big hole in the picture.
The
body, chassis and various parts and panels go in for
paint at the end of the month. If I’m really lucky I
can finish by October 15, which is the Tampa Street Rod
Show.
Thanks
again,
Tom

Michael,
The thin fiberglass dashboard was bit to flimsy and
square along the bottom. I cut one out of ¼”
aluminum and put a 6-guage insert in it. I think it
looks clean and neat. I also fabricated the column
drop out of ½” aluminum and polished it. Getting
closer. If we could get rid of the hurricanes,
I’d be able to get more done.
Thanks,
Tom

Michael,
I finished up the final body mockup. The body, hood and
sides are all finished with respect to body work. I
spent some time getting all of the body panel gaps and
belt line to line up. For my first time I think it looks
pretty good. I’m set up for end of September,
beginning of October for paint. I’ll send some photos
after that.
Thanks,
Tom
